Have you ever felt like something in your life no longer fits… even though you can’t explain why?

You may feel lost, disconnected, or unsure of who you are anymore. From the outside, your life may look good, and yet, something inside feels unsettled.

As though you’re being pulled toward something you don’t fully understand.

This experience can feel confusing, even unsettling. But what if it’s not a problem to fix? What if it’s the beginning of something deeper, to what some call awakening?

I remember standing on top of Mount Kilimanjaro, where I thought I would feel on top of the world; instead, I felt lower than I ever had. Despite having everything I thought I wanted, I felt empty, lost, confused, and stuck.

I didn’t know it then, but I was beginning the awakening process and the experience of myself as both a human and a soul.

Awakening, as I’ve come to understand it, is not about transcending our human experience; it’s about fully embodying it by becoming aware of our dual nature.

The part of us that has been living our life through roles, personality patterns, gender conditioning and expectations, and the deeper part of us that begins to question, feel, and long for something more real.

This is why awakening often feels confusing. Because it doesn’t begin with clarity, it begins with a subtle awareness that something inside you is no longer fully aligned.

Five Signs You May Be Experiencing Awakening

Awakening for many of us doesn’t arrive with a clear explanation; it often begins as a series of subtle but persistent shifts.

If you’re wondering whether something deeper is unfolding in your life, you may recognize yourself in what many of my clients have shared:

1. A Sense That Something Is Missing… Even When Life Looks Good

I often call this the Good Life Paradox.

You may look at your life and know, objectively, that it’s good. You may have relationships, stability, or achievements that once mattered deeply, and yet, something feels off.

There can be a quiet emptiness, a lack of lustre, or a feeling that something essential hasn’t been found or is missing.

For me, it felt like I had lost my spark. Like I was moving through my life, but not fully in it.

2. You Don’t Know Who You Are Anymore

At some point, deeper questions can begin to surface:

  • Who am I beyond my roles?
  • What do I actually want?
  • Why does it feel like I’ve lost myself?

You may find it difficult to describe who you are, or feel like there are two versions of you. The one who shows up in the world, and another part that feels harder to access.

This can feel disorienting, but it is often the beginning of reconnecting with yourself in a more honest way.

3. You Feel Lost, Directionless, or Without Purpose

You may feel like you’re floating through your life without a clear sense of direction.

Even if you have ideas, goals, or things you “should” be doing, it can feel difficult to connect with the energy or motivation to follow through.

This isn’t a failure of discipline or drive; it’s often what happens when your life is no longer being guided by something that feels true to you.

4. You Begin to See the Ways You’ve Been Living Behind a Mask

As awareness deepens, you may start to notice how often you adapt, perform, or override your own needs.

You may begin to see the roles you’ve taken on, the expectations you’ve tried to meet, and the ways you’ve shaped yourself to belong or be accepted.

There can be a quiet realization: I’ve been living in a way that doesn’t fully feel like me.

This awareness can feel vulnerable, but it is also the beginning of something more authentic.

5. Your Body and Inner World Feel Unsettled

Sometimes, awakening is felt most clearly in the body.

You may feel more tired than usual, emotionally reactive, or unable to fully settle, even when life on the surface seems manageable.

Sleep may be disrupted. Your energy may fluctuate. Small things may feel overwhelming.

This is not because something is wrong; it’s often because your nervous system is responding to an inner disconnection that is asking to be seen.

For me, the doorway inward was a simple, daily meditation practice. At first, even five minutes felt uncomfortable. The idea of sitting quietly with myself brought up more than I expected.

And yet, that small willingness to pause became the beginning of something profound.

It became the beginning of coming home to myself and growing a steadier, more compassionate relationship with the most important person in my life- myself.

What Awakening Really Means

A turning point comes when we begin to understand that awakening is not something to fix, but something to listen to.

Awakening is, at its core, the call to know yourself more deeply and, from that place, connect with something greater.

It’s the process of becoming aware of how you have been living, how your personality patterns have shaped you, and how your deeper self is now asking for something more honest and aligned.

Why does this matter?

Because when you understand that your restlessness, your longing, and even your confusion are not signs that something is wrong with you, but signals that something within you is shifting, everything begins to change.

Instead of trying to return to who you were, you can begin the deeper work of discovering who you are becoming.

Giving you a sense that something more is possible. More vitality. More connected relationships. More meaning and purpose in your life.

Because the truth is, awakening isn’t the beginning of losing your way…but the beginning of finding your way back to yourself.
